Community Ambassador Role

The Service covers almost two-thirds of Wales, covering a predominantly rural area of 4,500 square miles (11,700 km2), comprising 58 stations and employing around 1,300 staff. It is the third largest by area in the United Kingdom, behind the Scottish and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Services. Mid and west Wales is home to a diverse and multicultural population of approximately 931,698 people across 432,791 households, covering six local authority areas of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Powys and the City and County of Swansea.

Role Description:
We need your help to shape the services we provide! Public participation is at the heart of positive change, and your insights and opinions matter. Your contributions can help drive positive change in the community, help us to plan for future activity, improve public safety and reduce the severity of incidents we attend.

The Community Ambassador will play a pivotal role in helping to shape the services we provide and assist with building a positive and supportive environment within our communities. You will act as a liaison between the Service and community members, helping to communicate important information, promote community engagement and represent the views of the communities we serve.

If you’re a representative of a local organisation, business, community group, or a member of the community, and would like to assist in helping to shape the future of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, we would love to have you involved!

The role is on a voluntary basis.   

Commitment required
As much or as little time as you can commit. Ideally, we would like to hear from people who can commit a few hours per quarter (this will fluctuate on a quarterly basis, depending on the task/initiative) working on projects for the Service, attending meetings and events where required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain relationships with community members, local organisations and stakeholders.
• Assist in designing and implementing initiatives that address community needs and interests.
• Attend meetings and participate in discussions and consultations on key topics.
• Provide feedback on campaign and engagement materials and provide valuable input.
