Dogs on beaches restrictions reminder ahead of half-term

With the bank holiday and half-term approaching many people will be planning on getting out to enjoy everything that Pembrokeshire has to offer.
With fingers crossed for good weather, the county’s beautiful beaches and coastline are sure to be busy.
Anyone planning to take their four-legged friends along are reminded that seasonal dog restrictions are now in place at some Pembrokeshire beaches.
While many Pembrokeshire beaches welcome dogs all year around, there are some restrictions in place between 1st May and September 30th.
Between these dates total dog bans are in place at Tenby North beach and Whitesands.
Partial dog bans cover Lydstep, Newgale beach and pebble bank, Coppet Hall (voluntary), Saundersfoot beach and promenade, Tenby Castle and South Beach, Amroth beach and promenade, Poppit Sands, Broad Haven North and Dale.
You can see and download maps of the beaches and the restrictions in place on the Visit Pembrokeshire website.
The dog bans are subject to enforcement with a maximum penalty of £500 for breaches of the bylaws.
Since the restrictions came into place on May 1st there have been 26 Fixed Penalty Notices issued.
Cllr Rhys Sinnett, the Cabinet Member for Residents Services, said: “We are very lucky to have so many beaches where people can visit with their pets throughout the year.
“Dog restrictions are in place at some beaches during the summer period in order that everyone can enjoy their time by the sea.
“We would politely request that people get acquainted with the areas where dogs can visit before arriving and also follow the local signage in place.
“We always prefer not to have to enforce but we will have teams ensuring that bylaws relating to dogs on beaches are followed.”
Dog fouling restrictions apply to all Pembrokeshire beaches and owners are requested to pick up after their pet.
