The VC Gallery Haverfordwest is delighted to announce the reopening of its doors following a challenging period of recovery after flooding forced the charity to temporarily relocate operations.

The gallery, which serves as a vital community hub for veterans, service personnel and local residents, will resume full operations on Monday with doors open from 11am to 4pm, and extended access available from 9am to 5pm.

Barry John MBE, who has led the remarkable recovery effort alongside his dedicated team, expressed his delight at returning to the Haverfordwest base: "As a charity that wants to cut social isolation, not having our doors open has been a real challenge and put pressure on us. However, because of our dynamic team, we've been able to reorganise and keep other vital projects running effectively."

Speaking to Pure West Radio's Toby Ellis about the challenges faced, Barry John MBE praised the support received during this difficult period. During the closure, the charity maintained its essential services through alternative arrangements, including the woodland project and 'Dig for Victory' initiative, whilst their Pembroke Dock base played a crucial role in continuing operations. The organisation received invaluable support from Haverfordwest Town Council, a local development company, and St Martin's Church, enabling them to continue their breakfast clubs, counselling services, and drug and alcohol support work.

Barry John MBE expressed particular gratitude to Pure West Radio for choosing the VC Gallery as their chosen charity of the year, and for their continued help in promoting the charity's vital work in the community.

The reopening ceremony will be attended by First Minister Eluned Morgan, who will officially open the newly refurbished space. Whilst acknowledging the premises appear "rather clinical at the moment," Barry John MBE emphasised the team's commitment to creating a more welcoming environment: "We want to make it more welcoming – we're getting there. The structural damage took time to address, and the complexity with insurance, builders, and timing meant we had to be cost-effective in our approach."

The VC Gallery serves all members of the community, regardless of background, race, or religion, with a particular focus on supporting servicemen, servicewomen, and veterans through art, music, and various community activities. The facility will once again offer its full range of services, including art sessions, music programmes, a jewellery club, and coordination services as an armed forces hub.

"We're getting back to organised chaos," said Barry John MBE, "giving people opportunities to be involved in the community. Our Friday breakfast club is a brilliant get-together for people – we want everyone to feel supported and at the centre of the community."

The charity's volunteers, who have provided tremendous support throughout this difficult period, will be working intensively next week to ensure the smooth transition back to full operations. Fittingly, Barry John MBE noted, this coincides with Volunteers' Week, recognising the invaluable contribution these dedicated individuals have made to the charity's survival and recovery.
