This summer the Torch Theatre’s Youth Theatre sizzling summer show is the hilarious comedy The Bangers and Chips Explosion and your help is needed to find the Best Dinner Lady (or lunchtime supervisor) in Pembrokeshire!

The show is based on the popular children’s novel by Brough Girling that includes a horrid dinner lady who won’t serve chips at St Gertrude’s Primary School! As a result, the school children go on strike – with dangerous and hilarious results.

But the Torch Youth Theatre members know that most dinner ladies are not like the one in their play, and they need the help of Pembrokeshire school children and staff to find the best, most adored dinner lady who has ever paced the school canteen floor. And one lucky dinner lady (or man) will be crowned ‘The Best Dinner Lady in Pembrokeshire’.

To nominate your favourite dinner lady (or lunchtime supervisor) in Pembrokeshire, all you have to do is take a photo of your dinner lady hard at work and give us three reasons why you think your dinner lady is better than the rest – it’s as easyas that!

Once all the nominations have been received, the Torch Theatre panel will get their heads together and decide who is the worthy winner and who will be crowned the Best Dinner Lady in Pembrokeshire. She/he will be presented with a sausage hamper from Gate 2 Plate in Freystrop near Haverfordwest as well as two tickets to see the show!

“This is a fun competition that we hope all schools in Pembrokeshire will get involved in! Even Lisa from our amazing Café Torch posed for a picture in between making delicious dishes, she’s our favourite – but who’s yours?” said Tim Howe, Senior Manager Youth and Community at the Torch.

He continued: “I am sure we all remember our dinner ladies at school. These unsung heroes of lunchtime have always gone that extra mile, looking after us in the school hall or out in the playground. If we were extra lucky, we might have had extra lashings of chips and seconds when it came to jam roly-poly or chocolate cake and custard. We want to celebrate all these amazing people who have such a big impact on young people’s lives across our county!”
