Celebrations at the Community owned pub in Crymych
--
A great evening of celebrations was held at the Crymych Arms community owned pub in the village of Crymych.on Saturday evening the 18th May. Many of the local supporters turned out to see the unveiling of the new bar and cwtsh area as the community celebrated the latest phase of the redevelopment of the building.
During 2023 a fantastic effort was made by local people to buy the closed pub and to reopen it as a community hub, football clubhouse and pub. The "HubClubPub" idea proved tremendously popular and over £220,000 was raised by the autumn of 2023. The local contributions allowed the project committee to draw down additional grant funding and the community were then able to buy the pub. Following a complete make over of the bar and cwtsh area a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Saturday evening the 18th May with Granville and Sheila John kindly undertaking the ribbon cutting. They also addressed the crowds present with words of congratulations on seeing the whole community achieving such a great outcome of reopening the Crymych Arms pub.
One of the project team, Cris Tomos, noted. " The support from the community has been outstanding with people from near and far supporting the community share offer to gather the funds to buy the pub and to reopen it" Cris added "The project team are now asking people to call in and give additional ideas on what activities and social events can be put on. Already offers are coming in for developing a history club, a walking club and a gardening club to meet at the community venue."
The next phase of development will be the revamping of the restaurant area within the building. Anyone interested in supporting the project can contact the community pub on crymych,arms@gmail.com or phoning the HubClubPub on 01239 831435
