Plas Dwbl is a provision for Ruskin Mill Trust in Wales based on a 100 acre bio-dynamic farm at the foot of the Preseli Hills. Building on the success of Coleg Plas Dwbl in North Pembrokeshire, Ruskin Mill Trust launched Ty’r Eithin, near Swansea in South Carmarthen, in September 2020. Both Plas Dwbl and its satellite Ty’r Eithin offer Ruskin Mill Trust’s innovative Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) method giving young people the opportunity to overcome barriers to learning, become skilled through doing real life purposeful activities, and engage as valued members of the community.
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST
Salary Range FTE: £33,524 -£38,564
12 hours per week, 37 weeks per year
Based at Coleg Plas Dwbl, Pembrokeshire
The purpose of the role is to work therapeutically with specific or small groups of students of adolescent age, based on assessments of the student’s support and developmental needs. As a Speech and Language Therapist with the Trust, you would have the opportunity to
Deliver appropriate interventions, including informal and formal assessment through observation and staff/parent/carer liaison
Deliver weekly direct (1:1), small group and class-based interventions, including therapy in the craft and outdoor space
Have time to plan individualized, functional, student-centred programs across a variety of contexts (school-based, community-based, bakery, craft, land-based at our biodynamic farm – depending on the needs of the students).
Manage your own caseload, ensuring coverage of EHCP targets and student need, nurturing solid working relationships with staff and students.
The opportunity to facilitate meaningful change with hands-on intervention and practice.
Protected time for reflection and MDT liaison with the therapies team, staff and wider trust as well the opportunities to upskill staff to embed practices across the curriculum.
The post holder will be expected to embrace, articulate and work with the Trust’s ethos, which is informed by Steiner education, is maintained, implemented and integrated within the therapeutic provision within the College. To undertake this position successfully you will have:
An MSc in Clinical Communication Studies or equivalent.
A member of the Health Professional Council and a Fully Certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
Experience of working with autism, learners with learning difficulties and/ or learning disabilities and social-emotional behaviour
The successful applicant will take part in an interactive induction to experience the crafts within the curriculum and experience the student journey. You would also be provided with financial support toward the cost of clinical supervisions.
