ASD Family Help Launch New Sleep Service for 3yrs - 18yrs
--
We are so excited to announce that with the kind support/funding from Comic Relief Community Fund in Wales.
We are able to launch and run our new Sleep Service (3yrs to 18yrs)
A good night's sleep will help our young people achieve better at school, will keep them more alert and attentive, will help them with their executive function skills as well as supporting their mood and wellbeing.
A child that sleeps well will also mean that for parents/carers they will also have a good night's sleep which means their coping skills and wellbeing will have a positive impact on the family as well as themselves.
A young person who doesn’t have enough sleep can cause sleep deprivation which can cause higher levels of anxiety, become more hyperactive during the day leading to behaviour difficulties and poor mental health for the whole family. Young people with Special Educational Needs tend to have a higher percentage of difficulties. Between 40% and 80% (Blunden 2004)
Both the Sleep Foundation and The Sleep Charity speak in more depth about the difficulties young people and families face on a daily basis with regards lack of sleep.
We will be running Sleep workshops, follow up per support groups and 1-1 support programmes for those who need a bit more support. Dates will be realised soon.
Thank you and thank you once again to Comic Relief.
