Pembrokeshire schools have enjoyed a marvellous summer of School Cricket Festivals organised by Sport Pembrokeshire and Sponsored by Valero Pembroke Oil Refinery.
Thanks go to Valero’s Stephen Thornton for this ongoing support.
This year 44 schools took part in the boys (mixed) festivals with 450 pupils enjoying their batting, bowling and fielding.
A further 23 schools entered the girls only festivals with 220 girls taking part.
In a remarkable achievement Stepaside CP School and Tenby Church In Wales VC School won both the boys and the girls competitions.
Both schools then progressed to the South Wales Cricket Finals at the Vale Cricket Club, Bridgend, organised by Carl Holding of Cricket Wales, to play the winners of all the other local authority school winners in the area.
Both schools did extremely well with both winning two games out of three in the boys section and narrowly missing a semi-final place in what was a very high standard.
In the girls section, Stepaside managed to secure victory in three out of their five games.
An amazing performance by Tenby Church in Wales VC School saw them win all of their five games - including a tense final against Ysgol Rhiwbeina that came down to the last over.
Tight fielding and good bowling saw the Tenby side crowned South Wales Primary School Girls Champions.
It was a truly remarkable performance of which the girls and the school can be proud of.
Martin Jones, Pembrokeshire Cricket Development Officer, said both schools represented Pembrokeshire in an exemplary manner.
He added: “It has been fantastic to see everyone playing and enjoying cricket this year culminating in both Stepaside CP and Tenby Church In Wales VC schools representing Pembrokeshire in the South Wales Finals, capped off with Tenby being crowned South Wales Champions.
“A brilliant performance that really rounded off what has been a great summer of cricket for our schools.”
