George Whitfield of Narberth is an accomplished accordion player (and occasional vocalist) who is to be heard regularly performing solo shows and at sessions around the county. He also travels further afield for Festivals.
His chief band for a number of years has been Fiddlebox (he’s the ‘box’, Helen Adam is the fiddle) playing mainly what he calls ‘Klezraeg’, a mixture of middle eastern Klezmer music and traditional Welsh music.
Fiddlebox also collaborated with Narberth studio owner, producer, and fellow musician Nick Swannell to make an experimental album that mixed traditional folk, found sounds, with weird and wonky synths and keyboards!
George is fond of his collaborations and is much in demand as a session musician, having played on countless recordings. Two examples are included this week – one with Tenby acoustic quartet The Lucky 12 and the other with American rock band The Dover Brothers.
George also has his own Blues band (called Bluebox, of course!) playing entirely originals with George singing them as well as playing accordion.
