The county’s newest arts fund launches – to help young people in Pembrokeshire
THE AWARD:
Theatr Gwaun in Fishguard is proud to announce a brand new fund aimed at helping young people get into the creative industries. Abigail’s Arts Award which launches March 8th (International Women’s Day – but young men can also apply!) will help those aged 16-25 living in North Pembrokeshire get their first step into a creative career.
Every year the theatre will give out two grants of £500 which can be spent on things like travel to auditions, tuition fees, creative materials, equipment or activities. Anything that helps young people pursue their dreams – whether that involves music, dance, photography, design or acting. Whatever the discipline, applications are now open for young people across the county.
It’s been funded for the next decade by the Goswell family, as a way to honour the legacy of Abigail Goswell who passed away from breast cancer in 2020. Theatr Gwaun’s trustees know that North Pembrokeshire is blessed with many talented people and they’re eagerly waiting for them to come forward. They hope it will pave the way for the brightest stars of the future get a foot on the rung of the ladder to success!

THE LEGACY:
Abigail Goswell was someone who loved life, loved the sun, loved music and loved Fishguard. She spent the last few months of her life in the seaside town before sadly passing away from breast cancer at the age of just 47. She was passionate about reminding everyone to ‘Check their boobs and bits’ and wrote a brilliant blog about her fight with cancer (https://abigailblah.wordpress.com). Her parents: Jenny & Richard Goswell said:
“We wanted to create a legacy for Abigail that would reflect her passion for music and cinema and give youngsters a step on the way to realising their own dreams. As we follow the work of the successful applicants this will be a reminder of the love and joy that Abigail gave to our lives.”
Her sister Emma said “Wherever she is now, I think my little sister would have a twinkle in her eye to think she would be helping the stars of the future. She was a talented piano player, a great singer and loved music and cinema. She didn’t dedicate her life to the arts, far from it, but as an HR manager she did dedicate her life to helping others get the best out
of their careers. I miss her like crazy and this award is one way we can keep her memory and legacy alive.”
