Local charity continues podiatry support for end-of-life patients from grant

Local, Pembrokeshire-based charity, Paul Sartori Hospice at Home were recently successful in obtaining funding to continue to support its podiatry care to end-of-life patients in the area.
The Hospital Saturday Fund, who have previously supported the purchase of oral health care packs for end-of-life patients, have once again given generously to support free foot care packs.
The grant award of £4,000 has enabled the charity to purchase 250 tailored packs containing essential items for its patients. The Nursing Care Team, who will distribute these packs, are able to treat and advise on good and effective foot care.
The aim being to alleviate pain and discomfort; to aid mobility and to improve the quality of life for patients.
The personal packs will limit cross contamination and could also reduce possible complications such as unwanted infections or injuries.
Tesco Bags of Help initially funded the trial of the packs in 2019, when it was recognised that good foot care for end-of-life patients could be an integral part of the overall support offered by the charity. The team had previously witnessed situations which could have been prevented by regular podiatry care. This simple pack, along with the trained nursing team, ensures that patients can access foot care and advice swiftly and easily.
“Good foot care can play a big part in end-of-life patients.” said Pat Coombs, the Clinical Coordinator and Equipment Facilitator at Paul Sartori Hospice at Home.
“This grant from The Hospital Saturday Fund will help local people by giving free and accessible access to podiatry care at home, which could help with mobility issues and prevent more complications for patients,” added Pat.
“We are very grateful to The Hospital Saturday Fund in supporting this project and ensuring it can continue to support more local families. It will make a big difference to our patients,” said Judith Williams, Grant Development Officer at Paul Sartori Hospice at Home.
The Hospital Saturday Fund is a registered charity whose aims are to provide assistance through its charitable funds for registered health charities, hospices and medical organisations who are in need of grants for medical projects, care, research or support of medical training within the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Individuals with a medical condition or disability would benefit from assistance with the purchase of specialised equipment or from practical forms of treatment.

It gives everyone at The Hospital Saturday Fund immense satisfaction knowing that our fundraising makes this possible,” said Baldeep Thind, Charity Co-ordinator from The Hospital Saturday Fund.
Paul Sartori Hospice at Home provide a wide range of other services to people living in the final stages of a life limiting illness, including: home nursing care, 24-hour support, standby service, complementary therapy, bereavement and counselling support, physiotherapy, future care planning and training.
These services enable people in the later stages of any life limiting illness to be cared for and to die at home with dignity, independence, pain free and surrounded by those they hold most dear if that is their wish.
