Paul Sartori history project hosts community event in Goodwick
--
A Pembrokeshire based charity, Paul Sartori Hospice at Home, is hosting an additional community engagement event at The Phoenix Centre, Goodwick, on Friday 21st July from 11am to 2pm. The drop-in session takes place to highlight the on-going work of its Oral History Project. This Project has been made possible by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. It aims to capture ‘precious memories’ of the late Father Paul Sartori and highlight this connection to the charity.
The Oral History Project Officer Simon Hancock, and Project Assistant Kiara Quimby, will be on hand at the event. These events have been a great opportunity for the community – giving people the chance to find out about the project; to volunteer and to share stories. Simon said, “We have had two really good community engagement events so far, one at the Library in Haverfordwest and another in the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre. They were useful in identifying people who knew Father Paul Sartori, and now we are holding the next drop-in session in Goodwick. Currently 54 people have shared their special memories of Father Sartori.”
The team are inviting anyone to pop-in who has an interest in social history, have a chat, and find out what they have gathered so far about the life of Father Paul Sartori. They especially want to meet people from the Fishguard area, as it has good links with Ireland, which traditionally has a big Catholic community.
The interviews and memorabilia collected via the project, will be available on The People’s Collection of Wales website (a portal to preserve and celebrate the rich history of Wales) and locally via Pembrokeshire Archives, which preserves and promotes Pembrokeshire’s past.
Although formal interviews will not take place at The Phoenix Centre, the team will be able to arrange this for people who are happy to record their memories. The Team explained that this project has identified Father Paul Sartori’s life, his nature, personality, and character. Simon said, “These are the elements that go when people pass away, but this project aims to capture this, and safeguard and cherish these forever.”
If anyone has a special memory to share and cannot make the drop-in session, they are encouraged to get in touch with the project team by email simon@paulsartori.org or by telephone on 07796 973998.
