The big-hearted team at Pure West Radio has named rural mental health charity The DPJ Foundation as its charity of the year.
The DPJ Foundation - named after Daniel Picton-Jones, the late husband of founder Emma - was launched in 2016, and its remit is simple - to support those living and working in the agricultural communities of Pembrokeshire - and now across Wales - with poor mental health.
It provides support, spreads awareness and facilitates training so that those in the farming sector are more aware of poor mental health and its impact on our communities.
“We’re absolutely ecstatic to have been chosen as Pure West Radio’s Charity of the Year for the coming year.
We are working hard to challenge the stigma around both poor mental health and suicide within the agricultural community so that people feel able to seek help when they need it.
We’re certain that this partnership will help us to do that even more. We have supported 225 people in agriculture in Pembrokeshire with our free counselling and it costs us around £400 to support each person - so any money raised will help us to reach and support more people.” said Kate Miles, Charity Manager
The award-winning Pure West Radio team, which broadcasts an exciting mix of programmes and live events across the airwaves of Pembrokeshire, selects a local charity every year to be the focus of its charitable activities - and supports that good cause with coverage; events and monetary donations raised through raffles and other fundraisers throughout the year.
And the relationship doesn’t end there; Pure West Radio is still supporting its previous Charities of the Year - The Sandy Bear Trust last year and the Paul Sartori Hospice at Home and Patch previously.
“We are thrilled and delighted to welcome the DPJ Foundation into what we like to think of as our charity family,” said Toby Ellis, Station Manager.
“Working and providing a service, as we do, in Pembrokeshire, we are well aware of the particular issues that affect those living and working in rural communities and pledge to do all we can to support the team at The DPJ Foundation so that they can continue the vital work that they do in combating poor mental health in the agricultural sector.”
