RNLI St Davids cancel exercise launch to rescue dog
--
St Davids RNLI volunteer crew had to abandon a planned exercise launch at 8.52am on Saturday 25th November following reports of a dog over the cliff to the east of Porthgain.
All-weather lifeboat Norah Wortley launched and found the dog 3 metres down a 50 metre cliff.
Due to the position of the dog, the lifeboat stood by as HM St Davids Coastguard set up for recovery. Unfortunately as the cliff rescue team made preparations, the dog fell down the remaining 47 metres to the rocks below. St Davids RNLI launched the Y boat and swiftly retrieved the dog, before returning the alert canine to its grateful owners at Porthgain harbour.
Judd Kohler, RNLI Deputy Coxswain for St Davids RNLI lifeboat, says: ‘It was distressing for all the crew to witness the dog fall from the cliff, and our Y boat crew did a fantastic job in accessing the rocky shore so quickly. We wish the dog a speedy recovery.’
