The Pogues Singer-songwriter star Shane McGowan, best known for the Christmas hit Fairytale Of New York, has died at the age of 65.
Mr McGowan's wife, Victoria Mary Clarke shared the news on Instagram saying: "Shane will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life."
The Irish Singer-songwriter was born in Kent on Christmas Day in 1957.
Mr McGowan had been suffering from several health issues in recent years and more recently, had only been released from hospital last week, according to the band's Facebook page.
The festive Christmas hit, Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues and the late Kirsty MacColl was released in November 1987 and has been in the Official Uk Charts for 121 weeks but it has never grabbed a UK Number 1.
