Youth workers’ pride at mental health award nomination

School Based Youth Workers from Pembrokeshire Youth Services have been shortlisted for a prestigious award by encouraging young people to talk about mental health.
The team has been nominated in the Mental Health & Wellbeing Awards 2023 to be held next month in Cardiff.
The team has been recognised for their outstanding contribution to making a positive impact by creating an initiative or programme dedicated to improving mental wellbeing of their educational environment.
The team have been selected for the steps taken to break down barriers to discussing mental health openly and create an environment where pupils are encouraged and feel comfortable to talk about their mental health.
Chris Powles; Targeted Youth Team Manager said: “Being shortlisted for this award is a real testament to the efforts of the team of youth workers who are dedicated to supporting young people’s personal and social development. Helping address issues around their health and wellbeing is a key area of this work.
“The unique relationships that youth workers build with young people in schools means that we are often well placed to provide both support and challenge as required in a less formal manner.
“The direct feedback we get from the young people on the impact this has in helping them shows us that the youth work team is a well valued service and excellent in what they do”.
The awards will be held on 2nd October at City Hall, Cardiff.
