Opera and classical-music supporters will adore Puccini’s bittersweet love story that makes a rare Met appearance at the Torch Theatre this April, with soprano Angel Blue starring as the sophisticated French courtesan Magda, opposite tenor Jonathan Tetelman in his company debut as Ruggero in Puccini’s La Rondine.
Maestro Speranza Scappucci conducts Nicolas Joël’s Art Deco–inspired staging, which transports audiences from the heart of Parisian nightlife to a dreamy vision of the French Riviera, here at the Torch Theatre on Sunday 21 April.
Also in their Met debuts, soprano Emily Pogorelc and tenor Bekhzod Davronov complete the principal cast as Lisette and Prunier, with Speranza Scappucci on the podium to leada score that combines the charm of Viennese operetta with romance and heartbreak of Italian classics like La Bohème and La Traviata.
In a recorded broadcast from the Met stage, La Rondine is the eighth production featured in the 2023–24 The Met: Live in HD season. With a run time of nearly three hours, the opera is sung in Italian with subtitles.
La Rondine will be broadcast at the Torch Theatre stage on Sunday 21 April at 5.55pm. Ticket prices £20 / £18 / £9 Under 26. For tickets phone the Box Office on 01646 695267 or visit torchtheatre.co.uk.
