How you can claim up to £200 for a 'Back to School' grant
As children are preparing to go back to school at the start of the new term, parents are once again having to fork out considerable sums of money on uniforms, shoes, sports kits, bags and stationary sets.
But now, thanks to some financial support that's being offered by the Welsh Government, some families in Wales may be eligible for financial support.
These include families who are on lower incomes, families who are in receipt of certain benefits, those who are seeking asylum and children who are in care. Children who are entering Year 7 can claim up to £200 and all other years, in both the primary and secondary sectors, can receive £125 per child.
The grants can be used to buy essential items such as uniform, sport kits, school bags, stationary and uniforms for enrichment activities such as community sports. The money cannot be used to buy IT equipment.
Families must apply for the School Essentials Grant through their local authority, and applications can be submitted annually for each child.
