Welsh Water colleagues spread a little joy with gift donations to families this Christmas
Welsh Water colleagues and contractors Morrison Water Services have rallied together to donate presents to Friends of Jersey Park in Swansea and Flying Start in Ceredigion to provide families in South West Wales with the Christmas they deserve.
Friends of Jersey Park based in the heart of Port Tennant Swansea work closely with their community all year round. The volume of toys and gifts donated by Welsh Water was vast, from boardgames and baby toys to cuddly bears.
Children spanning all ages are due to receive a gift from Santa. Local ward council Hayley Gwilliam and Sarah O'Connor who head up the community group will be making sure the donations reach the families that need them most this Christmas.
Flying Start is a Welsh Government initiative which provides support and opportunities for families with children under the age of 4. Welsh Water supported the Flying Start group who cover Aberporth and Cardigan. The varied selection of toys and gifts will be given to the children to open on Christmas day.
Councillor Hayley Gwilliam said:“It’s unbelievable what we’ve received, and we’re so grateful for the donations that will really help a lot of families in our community this Christmas”
Sarah O'Connor, Co-organiser from Friends of Jersey Park, said: “It’s gone full circle, from when our community centre at the Pavilion originally opened in 2016, Welsh Water jointly supported our group with funding, to still be working with Welsh Water all these years later has been great! Thank you to all the Welsh Water colleagues who donated toys”
Emma Poole, a Flying Start Family Worker, said: “We are very grateful for the donations from Welsh Water and know that they will be gratefully received by the families we work with.”
Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water, said:“This is the second year our colleagues at Welsh Water have come together to help support charities and families with our Christmas Toy Appeal. Our staff were determined to help make sure families who are facing financial difficulty, had a special gift to open, and to enjoy Christmas as much as every other child.
"We’ve even had some teams use their ‘Secret Santa’ gift exchange to donate presents to the charities. Our teams are proud of the not-for-profit ethos of Welsh Water and are always looking for ways to bring extra benefits to our communities. It’s been great to see everyone come together and show their kindness and generosity. A huge thank you to everyone who supported this wonderful initiative.”
This year, the not-for-profit company has also enhanced the support it offers local communities with over 624 hours of volunteering hours taking place throughout 2025.
Volunteering activities range from litter picking, supporting an animal rescue centre, tree planting and gardening. The activities focus on making a positive impact in communities and the environment.
