Local Artist of the Week beginning Sunday 18th February: LUKE ELFORD.
Luke Elford is a talented singer/songwriter who, when working at the Druidstone Hotel in Nolton Haven, began performing at venues around the St Davids peninsula.
A few years ago, in search of a new challenge, he walked the whole 600 miles or so of south west England's coast path. But that wasn't enough for Luke. A year or so later he decided to walk the Camino de Santiago pilgrim's trail in Spain. Most people start in the Pyrenees but Luke decided to start in Wales! Three months and over 1200miles later he arrived at this destination.
Luke chatted to BB Skone on BB's show of Sunday 18th February (available on Catch-up) about those journeys, with fascinating tales of the people he met, the things he did, why he did it, how they were personal pilgrimages of growth, and how he financed his trips by busking along the way.
One time he was asked by a chap on a beach to play a song as the chap proposed to his girlfriend. James Blunt's "Beautiful" was the tune of choice and Luke performed it perfectly to the couple's delight.
The songs played live this week are all ones he wrote on those long journeys.
Luke is already planning his next big walk. To find out where, when and why - listen to the Catch-up of the show - available on the Pure West Radio web site or linked at BB Skone's Pembrokeshire Music Show page on Facebook.
