News that the Haverfordwest Carpetright store is set for closure has come as a shock to its staff as well as customers who have outstanding orders.
While rival retailer Tapi has rescued some of the Carpetright branches from closure, including Carmarthen, the Haverfordwest store has been listed as one of the outlets to be axed . Tapi has also confirmed that it won’t be rehiring the staff members who will be losing their jobs.
The closure will also have a knock-on effect on local independent carpet fitters which are currently used by Carpetright.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, prompting concern amongst both staff and customers, at the short notice they were given.
Tapi Carpets and Floors Limited has expressed its dismay at not being able to save more of the businesses and customer order, however the company has confirmed that hopes of saving it in its entirety were ‘unviable’.
Customers who are concerned about their outstanding orders and who have paid by credit card are being advised to contact their provider and initiate a Section 75 refund.
To help support the employees who are facing redundancy, Tapi has funded a service offering free employment workshops covering CV presentation, interview skills and job search strategies. Tapi has also confirmed they have contacted other retailers to help introduce the affected Carpetright staff to alternative jobs.
