Like many town centres throughout the UK, Haverfordwest faces considerable challenges in the ways it can ensure that its economic and aesthetic vibrancy continues for future generations.
Now, thanks to the foresight and determination of the town’s Regeneration Team, the future of Haverfordwest has never looked better.
This week locals are being given the opportunity to find out about some of the exciting new development plans which are currently in progress, as well as the opportunity to share their own ideas of how they would like to see Haverfordwest evolve.
Today, (Friday, July 19) and tomorrow (Saturday, July 20), Pembrokeshire County Council’s Regeneration Team will be hosting a community event at the Haverhub in Haverfordwest and one of their chief purposes is to ensure that the voice of the public is being strongly heard.
“One of our key aims is to hear people’s views on what we've developed to date, but also what people would like to see happening in the future,” said Pembrokeshire County Council’s Head of Regeneration, Rachel Moxey.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for us all to engage as a community, as there are currently so many exciting inter-related factors going on.
“And this doesn’t just mean the big key projects but lots of smaller things, such as the paint scheme which has already attracted 40 applications form Haverfordwest businesses and we’re on the verge of launching the shop front improvement scheme, so small grants are now firmly in place to help our local businesses.
“We’ve already had some fantastic feedback from the public so it’s important to us to find out what people feel is important to them.”
The town’s regeneration plans are already well underway with the Western Quayside building nearing completion and the major restaurant chain Loungers opening in December, 2024.
Work has commenced on a new landmark footbridge leading people from the Transport Interchange and across a new public space between the library and the Western Quayside. This is expected to be completed by Spring 2025.
The major renovation of the castle is also well underway, with work including a new event space which is due for completion in 2026.
The regeneration team will be on hand throughout Friday and Saturday morning, when they will answer any questions and share their plans with members of the public.
Anyone who is unable to attend can gain information and also complete a survey by visiting the Pembrokeshire County Council website on www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/futureofhaverfordwest
