Seaside toilet granted given reprieve by local businessman
A Pembrokeshire public toilet block that was closed by the local authority as part of a cost-cutting exercise has been dealt a swift reprieve thanks to local businessman Nick Neumann.
The Newgale South Toilets were closed earlier this year, however Mr Neumann, who runs the self-catering campsite Newgale Holidays as well as a 205-acre farming enterprise at Rainbolts Hill Farm, has stepped in after leasing the block from Pembrokeshire County Council.
The toilets were closed in April, 2024, as part of the local authority's cost-saving exercise. But when the community began expressing their disappointment at the decision, Mr Neumann stepped in to save the day.
He has now given the toilet block a fresh lick of paint and a thorough clean, ensuring that the facilities are once again fully operational for the summer holidays.
“Some people think I’m mad funding this small toilet building, but I’m so pleased to have been involved in retaining and opening the public toilets in our area,” he said. “But we still need to ensure a long-term solution so that these vital assets remain open for perpetuity.”
