Surgery closure could have 'devastating consequences' on patients
The decision to close St Davids’ GP surgery could have ‘devastating consequences on its 2,700 patients’ claims Senedd Member Paul Davies.
Mr Davies has accused Hywel Dda Health Board of reaching its decision without adequate consultation. He also claims that the health board has failed to take into account the impact its closure will have on patients.
“This could have devastating consequences,” he said.
“I’m appalled that the Health Board has taken this decision, as it’s fully aware of the impact it could have on patients, particularly the elderly, the vulnerable, and those with no means of transport to travel to other surgeries further away.
"Whilst the Health Board has undertaken a consultation exercise, it’s clear that the views of patients haven’t been sufficiently addressed.”
When St Davids Surgery closes its doors for the final time in October, patients will be forced to travel to alternative surgeries in Solva, Fishguard and Haverfordwest.
Mr Davies is now calling on the Welsh Government to ‘do everything possible’ to prevent the closure from taking place and has agreed to raise this matter at the Senedd at the earliest opportunity.”
“For years, health services have been under threat across Pembrokeshire, which is fast becoming a blind spot for the Welsh Government and the Health Board,” he said.
“The people of Pembrokeshire deserve better and we will keep fighting until this decision is overturned.”
