Local Businesses and Volunteers Join Forces for Pembrokeshire Beach Clean
The Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust hosted a successful beach clean at Freshwater West on Friday 10 May, removing a significant amount of litter from one of Pembrokeshire’s most popular beaches.
A dedicated group of 19 volunteers participated in the clean-up, coming from the Port of Milford Haven, Friends of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and local businesses Magnet Kitchens and DP Energy. Armed with equipment provided by Keep Wales Tidy, the volunteers donated four hours of their time to collecting beach rubbish.
Daniel Miles of Magnet Kitchens said: ‘I had a refreshing break from work to join the Magnet Projects team in a beach clean-up in the community. As a dad with young kids, it's disheartening to see litter on the beautiful beaches of Wales, but it felt fulfilling to help out in Pembrokeshire. I'm definitely planning to return with the family later this summer!”
His views were shared by colleague Collette Short, who added: “It’s lovely to be able to do something for the community that we work in, and what better way to kick off Mental Health Awareness Week than helping out a local charity?”
Their efforts resulted in a remarkable haul, with a total of 12 bags of litter being removed from Freshwater West. The collected waste will be disposed of responsibly, preventing harm to marine life and preserving the natural beauty of Pembrokeshire’s Coast.
Jack O’Shea from the Port of Milford Haven said: “Thank you to the team at Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust for organising and facilitating a great opportunity for us to engage with our colleagues away from the office and meet new contacts from around Pembrokeshire in an outstanding setting.
“We are extremely lucky to live and work in this beautiful corner of the world and it is a pleasure to get out and contribute to our local communities and environment in positive ways such as this. We look forward to the next Trust event – fingers crossed for the same glorious conditions and great company!”
Lee Watt, Project Manager at DP Energy, a Silver Partner of the Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust added: “It is great to provide hands on support by volunteering at events, especially when the focus is preserving the natural beauty of our local beaches. How better to support Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust in their mission to support conservation, community, and culture in the National Park, than by getting out on a sunny day to litter pick and catch-up with colleagues from the area.”
The Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust is committed to protecting our cherished coastline for the next generations and is already looking ahead to its next beach-clean at Manorbier, which is scheduled for Friday October 4.
