Ella Guru, from Tenby, is celebrating making mighty fine music in Pembrokeshire and beyond for 25 years! As part of the celebrations they called into the studio to record a live session for the BB Skone Show and all of the songs they played are featured this week. They are pictured wearing the commemorative T-shirts they've had made, on the back all the places they've played are listed. (Well those they can remember are!)
The interview they recorded with BB is available to hear on Catch-up.
For most of those 25 years Ella Guru have been husband and wife team Richie and Arleen Westmacott playing an unbelievable variety of music - rock, pop, folk, country, soul, blues, reggae - you name it, they've played it - and always with passion, fun, and total commitment. There's no going through the motions with these guys. Recently they've been joined by their son Kristian who, like his mum, has a brilliant voice and has added a new dimension and yet more songs to their already huge repertoire. He has also begun writing original material.
All three family members play percussion, guitar and sing (though not always at the same time). Richie and Arleen have also played in rock bands over the years, most notably Elephant Gerald and Voodoo Armpit during which time Richie earned the soubriquet 'Godfather of Pembrokeshire Rock'. He also ran the legendary Dales Record Shop in Tenby for over 30 years where he was a welcoming and informative presence.
Information about lots of Richie and Arleen's activities over the decades can be discovered at the Pembrokeshire Music Past Facebook page (use the search facility).
Details of where Ella Guru are performing can be found at BB Skone's Pembrokeshire Music Show page on Facebook where the Gig Guide is published weekly, the most comprehensive guide to what's on musically in our Shire.
Ella Guru have further celebrations for their 25 anniversary planned - stay tuned to the BB Skone Show.
