Delivering Vital Safety Learnings to Pembrokeshire Children
--
A new-look Crucial Crew got underway earlier this month, delivering vital safety learnings to Pembrokeshire children.
In this, it's 31st year, Wales' longest running Crucial Crew event launched its two-week programme, with almost 1300 year six pupils from 44 schools being welcomed to Scolton Manor Park – the first time the event had held at the venue’s Barn.
The initiative is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety Team with the financial support of South Hook LNG Terminal.
In total, over 40,000 Pembrokeshire schoolchildren have now benefited from valuable, interactive workshops that have run every year since 1993. Pembrokeshire’s Crucial Crew continues to be a key event for children in their last year of Primary School.
Delivering safety advice across a range of everyday situations, the event brings together emergency services, agencies and organisations that give children life-long skills. From water, fire, road and rail safety to domestic violence, electrical hazards, school bus evacuation, internet and dog safety, children are guided through a series of scenarios aimed at raising their safety understanding.
Hamad Al Samra, General Manager of South Hook LNG Terminal said: “Having supported Crucial Crew for the past fifteen years, we are incredibly proud to continue our involvement in an initiative that teaches our children such diverse and valuable safety skills.
Our thanks to all the people involved from the various Agencies for their commitment and dedication to Crucial Crew.”
Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services added: “Pembrokeshire County Council is proud to be a partner in this fantastic scheme supporting our young people to be safer now and in the future.
We are thankful for the dedication of all those involved in making Crucial Crew possible.”
The Agencies and Organisations delivering Crucial Crew this year were Pembrokeshire Domestic Abuse,
Road Safety, School Transport, National Grid, Network Rail, Welsh Ambulance Service, Dyfed Powys
Police, Mid and West Wales Fire Service, John Burns Foundation, HM Coastguard and the RNLI.
