Box Set Uk describe themselves as a "folk-beat-dance" duo - they are Tony Lyons (guitar/vocals/drums) and George Whitfield (accordion/vocals).
Tony and George met 30 years ago and formed the successful folk/rock band Pressgang which toured all over Europe. They lost touch when George moved to Narberth and George became involved in session work with local musicians such as The Welsh Whisperer, Lowri Evans, and The Lucky 12 as well as performing in the duos Blue Box (with Nick Swannell on guitar) and Fiddle Box (with Helen Adam on fiddle).
A year or so ago Tony and George were reunited, found the old chemistry was still there, and formed Box Set Uk and have been perorming nationwide since, including shows at Narberth's Food Festival and the Queens Hall's Bavarian Bash.
They went into Nick Swannell's Studio 49 in Narberth to record an album of almost entirely original songs and tunes (Crossing The Bar being the exception, the lyrics are taken from a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson) with Nick playing bass to beef up the sound.
The album is called Tinderbox Heart and is available to stream and download now from all the usual platforms. All the songs played this week are taken from that album. It is a very varied and exciting collection - perfect for extended listening or dancing too, whichever takes your fancy.
Tony and George also appeared on the BB Skone Show of Sunday 3rd November and can be heard chatting about all things Box Set UK, including the stories behind the songs and about the making of the album, on that show's podcast - check it out on Catch-up.
