"Three talented Ysgol Dyffryn Taf pupils took part in a very tight Young Chef competition on 14th November.
Competitors had two hours in which to cook a main course and dessert for two people, for under £18. The judges took healthy food choices into consideration. The competitors cooked interesting and tasty food and all stayed well within the budget.
There was just a quarter point in the judging with Leah Jones going through to the next round. Leah cooked pomegranate salmon with a herby quinoa salad finished with a balsamic glaze and a pistachio tiramisu served with fresh raspberries and cream for dessert.
Rotary Young Chef is an annual national competition with several more rounds early next year.
And secondly, Youth Speaks ....
"Narberth & Whitland Rotary welcomed teams from Ysgol Dyffryn Taf and Redhill High School to the Youth Speaks Competition at the The Plas, in Narberth, on 13th November.
Nine pupils took part in three fascinating debates, the subjects having been chosen by the competitors:
· This house believes that schools should mandate that all pupils learn about one major holiday for all cultures/religions celebrated around the world.
· “This house believes that peer pressure can be beneficial”
· “Can one person ever change the world?”
The audience thoroughly enjoyed interesting, and at times amusing, debates and were impressed by the ability and knowledge of the participants.
Ysgol Dyffryn Taf won the Senior Section of the competition Both Intermediate and Senior teams go through to the next Round on 30th January at Queen Elizabeth High School. This competition will ultimately find the champions for the whole of South Wales."
