Exciting Climate Change Education Workshops Pembrokeshire Primary schools saving the planet by building giant sustainable cities

Exciting environmental sustainability events are happening in Pembrokeshire primary schools this year. Planet CIC are taking specialised recycled Lego into the local primary schools to enable local children to build giant environmentally sustainable cities, helping them to understand what our urban environments should look like and what we can do to help create them. Over 700 children have already taken part.
In April 2024 the UN climate chief pressed for faster action, saying humanity has 2 years left ‘to save the world’ so it’s all hands on deck to achieve it!
On average 100 children at each school participate, from nursery to year 6 children, working collaboratively to create a spectacular city that supports wildlife, conserves energy, protects water and reduces carbon emissions. The children generate renewable electricity to power the city, building solar, land and offshore wind farms. They encourage the population to recycle with a vast array of bins and recycling centres, clothes swaps, and repair shops, encouraging people to buy less and purchase things produced locally or from businesses that take their environmental responsibility seriously.
There is a sustainable transport infrastructure enabling people to walk, cycle or use public transport and vehicle sharing much more easily. Local and vertical food farms, allotments and fruit trees all over the city enable food to be grown locally reducing C02 levels, increasing physical and mental health whilst improving the economy. Clean healthy rivers, wetlands, bioswales and seas support nature, reduce flooding and pollution. They build energy efficient homes and businesses with superb insulation, solar panels for energy, water collection, composting and waste recycling, EV charging points, green roofs, wild gardens rich with pollinator plants providing biodiversity corridors. The whole city is tapestry of greenspaces providing food, shelter and safe corridors for insects and animals as well as a wonderful place for humans to live.
7 of these brilliantly sustainable cities have already been built in the local primary schools including - Broad Haven, Johnston, St Francis, St Marks, Coastlands, Fenton and Waldo Williams. The children loved them, learning a huge amount about climate change solutions they can put into practice now and in the future, they are inspired to develop careers in sustainable housing, transport, energy, biodiversity, food production, water conservation, recycling and producing products that don’t harm the environment.
These workshops continue this Autumn and Spring of 2025 and hope to be ongoing, they are looking to help other social enterprises in other Welsh counties and the UK to support in delivering these workshops so that all children can have the opportunity. They can also be used for businesses and councils to help them visualise what needs to be done, offering an achievable road map of solutions.
These workshops are the first of their kind, the children are left buzzing with solutions and ambitions to drive positive change locally and help our planet.

Planet CIC is a social enterprise founded by Kate Evans, it is a recruitment business that puts all of its profits into educational environment initiatives for young people with the aim of helping to reduce climate change. All of the workshops are completely free to the schools.
Planet CIC moved to Pembrokeshire in 2022, they have also run biodiversity, tree planting, water conservation and renewable energy workshops as part of their School Sustainability Programme and hope to bring these to the area soon. They are keen to work in collaboration with the incredible work already being delivered by the Darwin Trust, PCF, PCNP and Celtic Deep to ensure that local children are equipped with the information and awareness they need for a safer, more sustainable future.

Three daily ferry sailings from Pembroke from 7th January 2025
The Port of Milford Haven has confirmed it will facilitate a third daily ferry sailing from Pembroke Dock Ferry Terminal on a temporary basis from 7th January 2025. Irish Ferries vessel the ‘Isle of Innisfree’ will call at the Port in addition to the twice-daily scheduled call of the ‘James Joyce’.
Temporary hospital visiting precautions in place to protect patients
Visitors to hospitals across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire are being asked to only attend if they are free of any potential flu-like symptoms, or any sickness or diarrhoea. Additionally, they may be requested to wear face masks before entry to certain wards or departments.
