Local Artist of the week: JUSTA JESTA feat. KV LYLE
Justa Jesta and KV Lyle is a relativley new collaboration from the north of the county which has just released an amazing debut album, Colours of the Soul (pictured), it is a glorious, inventive album of pure pop music. All songs played this week have been taken from that recording.
Dewi Smith, of Camrose, is the Justa Jesta songwriter. He has been writing songs and playing guitar for 50years. He performed in London, most notabaly with his band The Chase before moving to Pembrokeshire. Now his children have grown up Dewi has found time to make music again, working in his home studio with his son, 18 year old Lloyd. Lloyd is something of a technical wizard himself, having been taught bass by Ben Davies of The Sleeping Dogs and playing in Mike Chant's rock band, Mirror Show.
They have teamed up with KV Lyle, who has also returned to her home country after many years performing in London with several well known names and in such famous venues as the Royal Albert Hall and the O2 Arena. At that time she released a self-penned solo single, When You Dream and has plans to release her solo material soon.
Meanwhile she has teamed up with the multi-generational Justa Jesta to make music of which her soulful vocals and aptitude for conveying raw emotion and song narratives is an integral part.
She told BB Skone ‘It’s been perfect for getting back to what I love to do, in a consistent way. It’s a fun and appealing collection of songs. I was a little tentative vocally at first because I hadn’t properly sung in years. And I didn’t want to move too far from Dewi’s vision. But as time went on, it became clear I could explore my own interpretations without compromising that. As we got to understand how each other wanted to work, things became more fluid’.
Fun facts • KV plays the flute and has a music a-level • KV had a vocal coaching session with Michelle John of ‘The Voice’ fame • KV once sang as part of a warm-up act for well-known British band The Feeling at a London pub.
