The Hepburns (named after the two great actresses - Katharine & Audrey!) have been in existence since the mid-1980s, performing and recording intermittently with a changing line-up but the constant member has been singer/songwriter/ guitarist Matthew Jones.
Sue Reece, the current keyboard player and co-vocalist, will be well known in Pembrokeshire for her work with the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity and one of the band's drummers on a US tour was the late Tenby Blues Festival president, the legendary Pat Grover. (Tickets for this year's PWR sponsored Tenby Blues Festival, taking place over the weekend of 8-10 November, are now available from tenbyblues.co.uk).
The Hepburns have a very distinctive sound - a pure melodic, hook laden, pop music often with a cinematic quality - think Burt Bacharach with a gentle twist - that often references everyday life here in west Wales.
The band have just released a new album, Empire of Strange, (with amazing art work by Rhys Cannon) and all the songs featured this week are taken from it.
The Hepburns describe this new album as "a no-budget Welsh noir starring El Bandito and Lauren Bacall and featuring imaginary wrestlers, song mining, the Badminton Horse Trials, and leaning against Ford Zephyrs".
There's also a song (Working In A Song Mine) that mentions the BB Skone Show!
The album is available as a limited edition CD or to download and/or stream from Bandcamp.
