When it comes to gardening, the people of Pembrokeshire certainly know their blossoms from their weeds.
But one gardener is standing out head and shoulders above all the rest this week after her front garden was recently named the 'Best in Wales' by this year's Wales in Bloom judges.
Joanna Balkwill has lavished enormous care and careful planning on her front garden at Sunrise,Saundersfoot, and her efforts certainly blossomed in splendour last week with the judges commenting on her 'diverse range of planting, a riot of colours and spectacular dahlias'.
The Wales in Bloom and Britain judges visited Saundersfoot back in July when they cast their critical eyes over the entire village. And as well as choosing Joanna's garden as the best front garden in Wales, they handed out a Gold in the Large Village category, putting Saundersfoot ahead of 41-times winner, Usk.
Also in line for recognition were Saundersfoot in Bloom members Julie Davies and Martyn Williams who received Wales in Bloom Champion certificates for making an outstanding contribution to the Wales in Bloom Campaign by leading and supporting their local group members.
"Saundersfoot has beautiful floral displays backed with strong public art with colourful renderings on all the street furniture and heritage elements," commented judge John Woods.
Meanwhile in Tenby, The Giltar hotel and The Atlantic Hotel were both awarded Gold with The Giltar coming out on top as winner of the best hotel frontage category
