100-meter abseil raises over £3,500 for Intensive Care Unit

Staff from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Glangwili Hospital, and family members and friends of Jane Bacon, abseiled 100-meters down the side of the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth in her memory.
Jane had been battling cancer since 2021 and became unwell during a trip away with her family. Jane was admitted to Glangwili Hospital and sadly passed away due to sepsis in September 2022.
The team took part in the challenge in August 2024 and raised an incredible £3,570 for the ICU at Glangwili Hospital.
Amanda Stephens, Junior Sister and cousin to Jane, said: “Twelve of us took part in the abseil. Some of us, myself included, are particularly scared of heights and it was a windy day but we completed it and are all so proud of ourselves. We hope Jane would be proud too.
“The family are eternally grateful to my colleagues who looked after Jane incredibly well and are happy they can give something back to the ICU. Thank you to everyone who donated to our challenge.”
Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to all who took part in the abseil in memory of Jane.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
