Pembrokeshire children preparing for popular parade celebrating Patron Saint

Hundreds of Pembrokeshire schoolchildren will take to the streets of Haverfordwest on Friday, March 7th as the popular St David’s Day parade returns.

Organised by the Pembrokeshire Language Forum and Pembrokeshire County Council, the annual parade will set off at 10am for a celebratory procession through the town.

Led by the energetic Samba Doc, the parade starts from the car park behind the former county library building on Dew Street.

The children come down High Street, through Bridge Street, across the Old Bridge, back along Quay Street, and finally arrive at Picton Playing Fields, for an open-air jamboree.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for children to come together in a vibrant celebration of Welsh pride, language, music, and community spirit,” said Catrin Phillips, Welsh Language Development Officer for Pembrokeshire County Council.

In addition to the parade, local businesses are invited to take part in a shop window competition, celebrating all things Welsh. “The best Wales and Welsh-inspired display will be awarded a special dragon trophy,” said Rhidian Evans, Chief Officer for Menter Iaith Sir Benfro.

The public is warmly encouraged to come along and cheer on the parade, bringing banners, flags, and costumes to add to the festive atmosphere.

“We’d love to see as many people as possible lining the streets to celebrate Wales, our language, and our culture,” said Cllr Guy Woodham, Cabinet Member for Education and the Welsh Language.
