INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: 2026 CRUCIAL YEAR FOR WOMEN IN POLITICS
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: 2026 CRUCIAL YEAR FOR WOMEN IN POLITICS
On International Women’s Day 2025, Plaid Cymru’s Sioned Williams MS has said that “Plaid Cymru take our role serious to empower women in politics” and hope to elect more women than ever in next year’s Senedd elections.
This year’s theme is to “Accelerate Action” as we strive for full gender parity – with the theme calling for increased momentum and urgency in addressing systemic barriers and biases faced by women and girls.
Sioned Williams MS said that “women belong in all places where decisions are made”, and that we must take this year’s theme head on to empower women in politics.
Plaid Cymru spokesperson for Social Justice, Sioned Williams MS said:
“This International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the progress made in the advancement of equality, but we must also remember that there is still so much work to do – and in that spirit take this year’s theme head on to accelerate change both in our communities and in our democracy.
“Next year will be a crucial year for women in Wales: an opportunity to stand for election to our Senedd, to be involved in decision-making at the highest level, and to influence policies which impact women every single day – for the better. This is even more crucial given the increasing levels of misogyny and violence against women and girls in our society.
“We in Plaid Cymru take our role seriously to empower women in politics. Next year, we hope to elect more women than ever to build on the success of our strong group of female MPs in Westminster, to commit to a future where women’s voices echo in every chamber and to make it known that women belong in all places where decisions are made.”
