About Dan Metcalf

What do you do at Pure West Radio?

News Editor, Website & Socials Management and a Weekly Football Roundup.

How did you get into radio?

I've had a great relationship with the whole PWR team collaborating on projects for a few years, they asked me to come on board to help fill in a few gaps that had opened up ahead of their DAB launch and I was more than happy to officially become part of the team.

Where is your favourite place to visit in Pembrokeshire?

I love Sardis, where I grew up with my mum and nan. Strumble Head near Goodwick is a beautiful place to visit.

Who is your hero?

My grandparents, in particular my grandad who always showed me what hard work and love could achieve.

Outside of my family, I'm a huge US politics and culture enthusiast and I am big admirer of Theodore Roosevelt who I named my son after. Charles De Gaulle is another political leader I admire. For both men, not only for their political achievements but the what they endured in their personal lives and the love they showed for their families.

From my other passions, I'm also obsessed with Bruce Springsteen whose music so perfectly captures growing up and the working experience, and I'm constantly inspired by creative filmmakers like Jean-Luc Godard and John Cassevetes who always looked for ways to be innovative and exciting in what is my favourite medium.

What is your biggest fear?

Nothing really, I have goals which I want to reach so perhaps failure of reaching them for myself and my family, but as long as I know I've done my best to achieve them - that's okay.

Where is your favourite place to visit in the world?

When I was younger me and my brother went to the Algarve in Portugal with my grandparents a couple of times, which was a beautiful place that holds amazing memories.

Despite being a huge US culture fan I've never actually been there. I'd love to travel across the various states, a lot of people say New York or Florida, but the west coast is more appealing to me. Maybe start in Texas in make my way up north/west, through California then maybe to more rural places like Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming etc.

What would you change about yourself if you could?

Nothing, I just wish there was more time in the day so I could balance life better.

What makes you really angry?

People with no manners, people who are constantly angry, bitter, jealous, overly competitve people. The world is big enough for everyone to be successful, so you shouldn't have to bring other people down and compete to make yourself feel good.

What motivates you to work hard?

My family. I've never been good with saving money, planning things and so on but since meeting my girlfriend Scarlett, my step-daughter Autumn and having my son Teddy, it has given me motivation to get things in order and work even harder, for a purpose.

What is your favourite thing about your life?

The freedom and flexibility I have work wise and getting to work with creative, supportive people.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Becoming a dad.

Who is the most famous person you've met?

Probably Mark Williams, the Welsh snooker player. Also, I was tear gassed with Pharrell Williams in a nightclub in Barcelona...

One thing people might be surprised to know about you?

Probably not a surprise to most people who know me but I love films and would love to get involved in filmmaking, I'm planning to make a feature-length documentary film in the future and have some other screenplays written which I would love to come to something.
