Pure West Radio has now launched a new weekly Pembrokeshire based Sports Show which will be broadcast on a Saturday and Monday. To add to the excitement for sports fans, Haverfordwest County AFC have appointed Pure West Radio as their official radio partner for the 2020/2021 season.
Station manager Toby Ellis has recruited top presenter Ben Stone and renowned sportswriter Bill Carne to front both shows.
Sports journalists Gordon Thomas and Fraser Watson have been added to the team, and the pair will share their vast amount of local and national sporting knowledge.
“This is a milestone as we now have a dedicated ‘Pure West Sports Team’ - it’s been a long time coming. To partner with the Bluebirds is a dream come true and we’ve gathered Pembrokeshire’s A-team as far as sport is concerned in this county,” said Toby.
Bill and Ben were integral part of a national award-winning show when they hosted the ‘Friday Night Sports Show’.
Bill Carne said: “I am absolutely delighted that ‘Pure West Radio’ is going to give sports fans the quality news, views and the chance to listen to some great characters that are to be found in sports clubs around Pembrokeshire. I applaud Toby Ellis for bringing together Ben Stone as an anchor man of great experience (I will never forget winning an Arqiva award with him in 2010 where we beat off the challenge of 650 other UK commercial stations and at the presentation in London I had the then mayor Ken Livingston plant a kiss on both cheeks!) Throw in Gordon Thomas and Fraser Watson as the two most knowledgeable and respected sports journalists in our county and I can’t wait for the programmes to start!”
Ben Stone echoed Bill’s enthusiasm by saying: “Pure West Radio is doing a great job serving Pembrokeshire with a truly local service. I’ve always been a huge fan of Pembrokeshire Sport and I am looking forward to getting involved again. The team has some true Pembrokeshire sporting legends on it and I can’t wait to be reunited with Bill Carne again!”
Sport is halted at present due to the COVID-19 pandemic – but Pure West Radio still are positive this will be a good time to get this new venture underway.
“The way sport is being covered is evolving all the time and what Pure West are doing reflects that. 'I'm really grateful for the invitation to work with them and look forward to being involved in covering and debating about sport in Pembrokeshire. It should be fun,” said Fraser.
The Saturday morning hour show will be discussing what to look forward to on Saturday afternoon with an excellent mix of music.
The Monday evening Show will have a two-hour slot with interviews and debates regarding what is topical at the time.
