Lifetime of service to children and young people in Pembrokeshire celebrated

The incredible contribution one family has made to foster caring in Pembrokeshire over more than three decades was celebrated at County Hall recently.
A special thank you event was held for Alex Allison, and his late wife Dorothy, who have helped countless children and young people find their way in life by welcoming them into their home.

Three Milford Haven Karate Club members cemented their place among the best in the UK at the WUKF British Championships in Dundee this month.

Josh Whatling, 20, Gethin Adams, 15, and Connor John, 14, all represented Wales all came away with medals. Josh fought superbly in the 85kg event and secured a silver medal by winning his semi final, but cruelly picked up a broken nose in the process and missed out on a chance to compete for gold. He also took bronze in the men’s senior team event.

Enterprise and Skills Project comes to close after successful six months

A pilot project to aid local people into employment, support businesses and boost skills development has come to an end after a successful six months undertaking.
The Enterprise and Skills Project (ESP) was overseen by Pembrokeshire County Council and funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Full Council yesterday (Thursday, 2nd March).

Pembrokeshire Lottery player scoops £10,000 Superdraw prize.

To thank their supporters during their 30th Anniversary year, the Pembrokeshire Lottery have increased the prize amounts. The first of these was held on held Wednesday 1st March with the usual £8,000 prize increased to a whopping £10,000!

Golf Club raise vital funds

During the year of 2022, Derllys Court Golf Club raised vital funds for Pembrokeshire based Hospice at Home Charity. The 18 hole, parkland Golf course based in Llysonnen Road, Carmarthen was established in 1992 and runs various events throughout the year, where they have held raffles, auctions and collections to raise funds for Paul Sartori Foundation.

Haverfordwest Airport staff get hands-on with Royal Navy Merlin helicopter

A Royal Navy Merlin helicopter visited Haverfordwest Airport earlier this month to give staff a chance to learn more about these impressive aircraft.
The visit enabled staff to get up close and hands-on with the helicopter and consider all aspects of safety when it comes to refuelling.

Medal presentation ceremony held at County Hall

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed, Miss Sara Edwards, presented three Pembrokeshire recipients of the British Empire Medal (BEM) with their insignia recently at a ceremony at County Hall in Haverfordwest.
The Lord-Lieutenant was assisted by Lord-Lieutenant Cadet Maisie Millichip and the recipients were welcomed and congratulated by the Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Cllr Pat Davies.

Local Artist of the Week: TIM & SARAH WILLIAMS 27/02/23

Tim & Sarah Williams are husband and wife visual artists from Keeston. Tim is an accomplished sculptor working in metal and Sarah is a painter and collagist. They have exhibited regularly throughout Pembrokeshire, together and separately, including at St Davids Cathedral. Sarah is also featured in a recent book about 10 'Women Artists in Wales'. One of her latest works, a re-interpretation of the traditional Welsh women's costume which explores notions of gender identity, is pictured.

New milk processing facility for Pembrokeshire: Welsh Government and Pembrokeshire County Council secure new jobs and investment at Pembrokeshire Food Park

The Welsh Government and Pembrokeshire County Council have completed the sale of land to a Pembrokeshire-based company for the development of a new milk-processing facility in the county, as part of a multi-million-pound investment.
Pembrokeshire Creamery Ltd. (PCL) has acquired a development plot at Pembrokeshire Food Park, bringing with it £17m investment and the creation of 80 new jobs over the next three years.

Solva Surgery to be managed by Hywel Dda UHB

Solva Surgery will be run as a Managed Practice by Hywel Dda University Health Board, it was decided yesterday (Thursday 23 February 2023).
The Practice gave notice on its Contract with the Health Board, which comes into force from the end of March 2023.

Bequest funds cardiology equipment for children and young people in Pembrokeshire

Thanks to a generous bequest, Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, has purchased equipment worth over £110,000 for cardiology services for under-16s at Withybush General Hospital.

Health Board will discuss Solva Surgery on 23 February

The future of Solva GP Surgery will be discussed by Hywel Dda University Health Board at an extraordinary meeting on Thursday 23 February 2023.
Following the decision by the single-handed GP Contractor to resign their General Medical Services contract with the Health Board, an engagement exercise was undertaken to gather patient and local stakeholder views on the future of services for patients.

Off-duty Pembroke Dock firefighter assists lifeguards with CPR

On Friday, February 3rd an off-duty Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service firefighter administered lifesaving CPR to a gentleman experiencing a cardiac arrest.
Lee Murray, a Crew Manager at Pembroke Dock Fire Station, was enjoying his regular morning swim at Pembroke Leisure Centre when he noticed some commotion at the side of the swimming pool. On leaving the pool to see what was happening, Lee saw lifeguards assisting a gentleman who had collapsed and was experiencing a cardiac arrest.

Successful pub charity prize draw

The people of Pembrokeshire are so generous when it comes to charity fundraising, especially around Christmas time, as The Alma Inn, in Pembroke Dock recently found out. On Boxing Day they held their annual charity prize draw. This year they chose to support Paul Sartori Foundation, who provide a range of services to Pembrokeshire people living in the final stages of a life-limiting illness, including home nursing care and equipment loan.
